Diet

As I am sitting here waiting to wake up I am remembering my very first Competition in 1998!
It was the Vegas Classic .
My trainers name was Bebe, a French girl that had been competing for many years.
At that time I was a workoutaholic!
To my suprise I was cut down on cardio (from 60 min a day to 30), and to only 4 days of weight training instead of 5 or 6….
I wasn’t allowed to do anything in addition physically .
My diet was super clean, and my supplements in moderation!
I wasn’t allowed fat burners until 6 weeks out….
How was I suppose to lose weight ( my addicted brain asked)?
Well, I did!
My friends and colleges could see significant changes after only one week!
I was 100% on my diet and prescribed cardio!
I didn’t overtrain anymore, and my body finally had the chance to change!
Also my training heartrate was no more than 65% and made me lose mostly body fat and not muscle!
I remember I asked Bebe what heart rate she wanted me to be, she looked at me and said” you sit on the bike and go…”
Okay!
But we did cardio together she was never in high levels!
Yet she was always extremely lean!
I competed in Bodybuilding since there was no Figure, or Bikini division in 1998!
I placed 5th place and was happy 🙂
This is what it taught me:
More is not always better!
If you are 100% on your diet your body will do what it is suppose to do!
High heart rates do not burn more fat, they just burn more calories!
( calories that come from carbohydrates that you don’t eat = metabolizing your muscle to make glycogen and burn it = muscle loss)
You don’t have to over supplement yourself with everything that is on the market, but you have to take the right supplements!

One thing I love about Freddie from Freddie’s Nutrition is that he guides you to high quality supplements without the high price tag!

I think humans are programmed for addictions!
We all have them 😉
Alcohol and drug addictions!
Exercise addictions.
Food addiction…
Nicotine …
Addiction to computers and cell phones…
Text and email…
Medication…
Your favorite hobby…
The list goes on and on…
We are amazing as human beings and fragile in our existence!
Our every day world is tough and stressful!
Sometimes it gets hard to compensate or destress .
We reach for medication, alcohol and drugs to help us compensate for our feelings and fears!
We are told that this is what we have to do…
How did our ancestors deal with stress?
First… They did not have to deal with what our society has to deal with in our time!
Second …food provided much more nutrition to feed and ease stress receptors!
Severe addiction will not go away and disappear!
Severe addiction will only change into another addiction!
It can be to something not much better as medication, or it can change into being addicted to another person (relationship)!
Maybe it will change into the addiction to exercise (which I have witnessed before)!
The first step towards getting better is:
1. Recognize the problem.
2. Plan out your recovery.
3. Keep strong and do not give in ( takes 2 weeks to feel better)
4. Keep your nutrition and supplements 100% on track
5. Ask for help!!!
Think of reasons why you want to get better ( family, kids, husband, job, yourself, your future…)
Don’t take short cuts ( changing from drugs or alcohol to meds), don’t use excuses why you didn’t stick with it!
This is about your health, your well being, your life!!!
Just do it 😉

Today we arrived in Maui at about 7am!
First thing we did after getting our rental car was heading out for breakfast!
The menu didn’t have a lot of healthy food options (supprise )….
My husband James had fish and egg whites, but I can’t eat white fish that early!
My option was a lox Benedict without hollandaise!
Which was a piece of bread with lox and tomato…
Not to bad if you forget about the bread 😉
As we were eating I watched a table next to us!
Seamed like father and daughter .
The daughter, no more than 18 years old, had juice, a bran muffin, a cinnamon roll and a plate of fruit in front of her!!!
Sugar, sugar, sugar!
Yes, she ate all of it….
The dad was having juice, a stack of 3 hughe pancakes with fruit, whipped cream and powdered sugar !
And….he also ate all of it!
I was almost ready to walk over to say” excuse me but it seams as you are forcing diabetics on yourself and your daughter”.
Bran muffins are a terrible choice!
Don’t drink juice…eat the fruit instead!
Cinnamon rolls? Please!!!
Pancakes with more sugar and saturated fat?
Clogged arteries and heartattack here we come…
Why would someone that loved their children let them
Eat this way?
( just a question)
After my observation at breakfast we had more hours to kill before check in.
So, we signed up at a local gym and worked out for about 90 minutes!
Got the blood fow going, released some of those kankles after flying for long period of time.
Before check in we stopped at the supermarket and bought water, fruit, nuts, veggies, egg whites and eggs, oatmeal and my favorite ….coffee!
No bran muffins, juice, pancakes, and cinnamon rolls allowed 🙂
Just done with dinner ( white fish, cucumbers and tomatoes), and now watching an amazingly beautiful sunset!!!
Life is good 🙂

Yesterday was our competitors last day of training!
Until Saturday it’s rest and carbloading 🙂
I already know these girls are going nuts until Saturday!
So much time and nothing to do….
Why are we doing this?
Well, now they are depleting water and sodium…
You are pretty much dehydrating your body as well as your joints!
Workouts don’t do much at this point anymore and you need to give your body a chance to get your carbohydrates into your muscle or glycogen storage!
Carbohydrates will attach to the circulating water in your body and push it into the muscle!!!
If you still work out, you may end up flat onstage…
Carbloading only works if you have depleted glycogen stores first ( in appearance )!
This is when competitors get very tired and weak.
Low sodium levels (muscle contraction) and dehydration!!!
You guys are going to be thirsty all day 🙁
Sorry….
It’s almost over!
Coming of that stage and knowing you did this will make you feel like a million bucks!!!!
